First Lady praises services, upkeep of AYUSH Hospital

The two-day exhibition on ‘Medicinal Plants and Yoga’, organized by the AYUSH Hospital as part of the celebration of 3rd International Day of Yoga, which will be celebrated across the world and the country on June 21, got underway with its inauguration by the First Lady of A&N Islands, Smti Prem Mukhi at AYUSH Hospital,Junglighat here on Friday. The DHS (i/c), Dr. Avijit Roy, Programme Officer, AYUSH, Dr. Kalyan P. Kadbhane, Specialist (Ayurveda) Dr. Rekha, Medical Officer (i/c) (Homeopathy) Dr. M.A. Javed and other doctors were also present on the occasion. After the inauguration, the First Lady went round the exhibition and evinced keen interest in the medicinal plants and photos of yoga postures on display. Dr. Rekha, the coordinator of the programme, briefed the First Lady about the medicinal plants and their uses for various ailments. The First Lady said that the availability of many medicinal plants here in these Isles must be put to good use for the benefits of the Islanders. The First Lady visited the Male and Female Wards and interacted with the patients and enquired about the health facilities being provided to them and the availability of doctors attending to their needs. She also visited the OPD Section, Laboratory, Pharmacy Section, Homeopathy Section, Homeo Dispensary, Panchakarma Section (for Male and Female) and was briefed about the process and functions of Panchakarma.
Dr. Rekha and Dr. Kadbhane also informed the First Lady that a good number of patients from mainland also visit AYUSH Hospital, while they are in the Islands, for treatment of various ailments as free treatment in Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Panchakarma, Yoga and Physiotherapy are being provided to the patients here. The First Lady also appreciated the cleanliness being maintained at AYUSH Hospital and the services being provided to the patients. She also lauded the dedication of the doctors of AYUSH and urged them to keep up the good work. Dr. Rekha presented a medicinal plant to the First Lady as memento on behalf of the doctors and staff of AYUSH on the occasion. The two-day exhibition will remain open tomorrow (June 17) for the general public from 9 am to 1 pm.
