Joga Rao, who owns a fishing boat, is now a happy man. He along with some of  his family members was involved in the fishing business for the past many years and they now save considerable amount of money and time adding up to their daily profits after the launch of the Diesel Outlet at Junglighat Fish Landing Centre. “The amount of money saved on transportation of fuel comes in handy for meeting other expenses incurred in the business,” says Joga Rao. Like Rao, many other fishers from the area are reaping big benefits after the opening of the Diesel Outlet Diesel Bunk installed by the Indian Oil Corporation in the month of May this year.
“The NDA government at the Centre has fulfilled its poll promises to the fishing community in these islands. Like the rest of the country, several schemes launched for fishermen are proving immensely beneficial for the progress of the community,” asserts Joga Rao.
“Before the launch of the Diesel Outlet at the Junglighat Fish Landing Centre, fishermen used to hire autos to travel to the Petrol Pumps in the city to purchase fuel. One had to spent huge amount of money as transportation cost besides standing in long queues for the purpose. But the situation has changed today. Now fishermen have easy access to the Diesel Outlet and obtain the commodity in just a few minutes. The initiative has resulted  in saving of money and time for the fishermen here,” said another fisherman of Junglighat, Mr Mohan.
On May 29 this year, the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the Diesel Outlet at Fish Landing Centre at Junglighat in the presence of the Member of Parliament, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Chairperson PBMC, Adhyaksh ZP South Andaman, senior officers from administration and fishermen of the area. The Lt. Governor then reiterated the commitment of the administration for the social and financial uplift of the local fishermen community in the islands by developing fisheries infrastructure facilities in different places of A&N Islands.
