Forest Department celebrates World Environment Day

World Environment Day was celebrated on the theme “Connecting People to Nature” in a befitting manner by the Forest Extension & Publicity Division, Department of Environment & Forests here in the office premises of Department of Science and Technology, Dollygunj on Monday, which was marked by planting of saplings by the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (P&D) Mr D. M. Shukla as the chief guest, officers and staff of the departments. The trainees and instructors of Industrial Training Institute, Dollygunj also participated in this activity and planted more than 160 saplings (fruit bearing and ornamental plants) in the premises.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest impressed upon the trainees, staff and all others to contribute for a clean and green environment. He appealed one and all to help protect the natural resources of the Islands for the present and future generation. He urged the trainees to support in checking the environmental degradation and maintain the pristine environment of the Islands.
The World Environment Day was also observed in Nicobar District in a befitting manner at Campbell Bay. A beach cleaning activity was held in ‘B’ Quarry beach by involving villagers, officer, staff and workers of the Department. Earlier the staff and workers were briefed on the latest trends in environmental conservation and protection
