Government nurses to go on 24 hr strike on Thursday

The Health services in the referral hospital, GB Pant Hospital is likely to be badly affected on Thursday after government nurses announced a one-day strike on the 23rd of this month. Under the Trained Nurses Association of India, the nursing staff of GB Pant Hospital will hold the protest to press for their eleven-point charter of demands. A rally is also scheduled to be held on the day from the hospital premises to Secretariat. Speaking to scribes, the chairperson of Trained Nurses Association, Andaman Branch, Smt Mallika Devi informed the strike will be held across the country at the call of Trained Nurses Association of India. “Some of our demands include payment of wages and other allowances, filling up of vacancies, appointment of Nurses in proportion to patient load etc,” she said.
The vice president of the Association, Mr Ashok said that a memorandum of demands will also be submitted to the Principal Secretary of Health on the protest day. The proposed rally will start from GB Pant Hospital and culminate at Secretariat after passing through Bengali Club, Directorate of Information and Publicity, he said. Timely promotion of Nurses, ANMs, LHVs and CHOs, filling up of vacant posts of nurses in government hospitals, filling up of vacancies of Principal, Vice Principal, faculty in the ANM school, creation of posts of Matron in district hospitals at Mayabunder and Nicobar, creation of posts of Chief Nursing Office, Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent in GB Pant Hospital, involving Nursing Superintendent in transfer and postings of Nurses etc are some other demands raised by the Association,” informed the Secretary, Smt Shakila.
Major demands raised by the Nursing Association include no outsourcing of contractual vacancies, maintaining nurse-patient ration, implementation of central government recommendations for private nurses based on the writ petition filed by the TNAI, timely promotion of Nurse/ANM/ LHV/ CHO, filling up of vacancies of Nurses/ANM/DPHN, filling up of the post of Principal/Vice Principal in Nursing & ANM School by nursing faculty, creation of Matron post for two District Hospitals, creation of post viz. Chief Nursing Officer, Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for GB Pant Hospital, inclusion of Matron/Nursing Superintendent as member in the Establishment Board for transfer & posting, engagement of nursing personnel by contractual basis in Medical College, nomination of Nursing Faculties as member in RR framing committee, appointment of nursing  personnel though Staff Selection Commission, establishing of nursing cell in the Directorate of Health Services and equal pay for equal work.
