Govt. employees on dharna

In solidarity of the countrywide  agitation in all State capitals by the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees and Workers, New Delhi, the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands organised an evening mass dharna today at Tiranga Park, Port Blair. Inaugurating the dharna, Shri Raj Kumar Saw, general secretary, Andaman Nicobar Government Employees Federation expressed displeasure over the indifferent attitude of the Central government towards the government employees and workers by neglecting their genuine demands. He also spoke on the day by day deteriorating condition of the local administration which is badly affecting the overall performance of various departments in these islands.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri T.S.Sreekumar, general secretary of the association thrashed upon the present government for their negative view towards the government servants which has forced them to choose the path of protest all over the country. He criticised the local administration for their lethargic approach towards the issues of the government servants and public as a whole, which has lead to a considerable increase in corruption in various departments. He  also threw light on various burning issues of government employees. Shri G.P.Mandal, organising secretary, Shri S.L.Vinjit, secetary, Shri Gopal Chandra Dey, organising secretary, of South Andaman Teachers’ Branch and Shri Anadi Ranjan Bhattacharya, divisional secretary, Postal Employees Union, P-IV also spoke on the occasion and briefed the meeting on various demands placed before the government which include (i) Enhancement of Minimum wage and fitment factor (ii) HRA at previous rates of 30%, 20% and 10% (iii) Option-1 as recommended by 7th CPC to Pensioners (iv) Scrapping of New Pension Scheme (v) Revision of Overtime Allowance and Night Duty Allowance (vi) Abolish and upgrade all LGCs to HGCs (vii) Extend all benefits of regular govt. employees to Gramin Dak Sewaks (viii) Regularise all Contract, Casual and Daily Rated employees/mazdoors (ix) Withdraw arbitrary decision of the government to enhance the benchmark for MACP/Promotion from ‘Good’ to ‘Very Good’ etc. Further a number of local issues like (i)Regularisation of ad-hoc services of teachers (ii) Implementation of NFSG to AC cadre employees (iii) Restructuring of Statistical Cadre (iv) regularisation of TSMs of JNRM etc. were also highlighted during the dharna.
Mr S.N.Mishra, vice president of the association expressed vote of thanks. A good number of government employees, workers and postal employees participated in the programme.
