Green Energy Solution by BARC Scientists for ANI

The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has approached the Dept. of Atomic Energy for assistance in Waste to  wealth (Sewage Management) and Solar Desalination Plant at Chowra Island and other initiatives keeping in mind fragile ecosystem of these islands. A team of 4 scientists from BARC, Mumbai comprising Mr. Shrikrishna Gupta, Head, Technology Transfer & Collaboration Division, Dr. R. C. Bindal, Head, Desalination Division, Dr. Lalit Varshney,
Head, Radiation Technology and Dr. Sukhendu Ghosh, NA&BTD is on a  3-day visit to the islands for discussion on the above issues. A meeting was held in the conference hall of Secretariat on Monday wherein Mr Anindo Majumdar, Chief Secretary, A & N Administration interacted with the eminent scientists and decisions were taken on implementation of bio degradation plant (Biogas plant), banana tissue culture, low cost water filtration and installation of solar desalination plant.
Comm.-cum-Secretary (PWD), Secretary (Agri), Secretary (Edu), Secretary (PBMC), Chief Engineer, APWD, Director (CARI) and Principal (BRAIT) were present at the meeting. BRAIT is already in the process of constructing on e Biogas Plant under the guidance of BARC, which is nearing completion. The scientific team will be visiting the Chowra Island on Tuesday for the Field study of the establishment of Solar Desalination Plant. The visit is being coordinated by DBRAIT.
