Handicraft fair registers overwhelming response, organisers laud arrangements

The exhibition-cum-sale of exquisite handicraft of North Eastern States at ongoing Craft Bazar at ITF Ground here continues to draw huge crowd at the venue. Sponsored by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Govt. of India, New Delhi, the exhibition, being organised by the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd. (A Govt. India Enterprise, “Purbashree” under Ministry of DoNER), Kolkata, will remain open from 9 am to 8 pm till Dec 7.

Speaking to EOI, the organisers of the fair appreciated the arrangements provided by the UT Administration. “The response from general public for the fair has been overwhelming and the administration too has extended all support to us. Whenever such exhibition-cum-sale was organised here, the sellers registered good sale figures. Last time despite cyclone Vardah hitting these islands, hundreds of visitors thronged the stalls at the fair. The stalls of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh has registered the highest sale figures this year, while some have started facing shortage of items. Handloom, Lucknow chikion, sarees in particular are drawing huge number of women buyers to the fair,” said Mr BK Dey.
Items on display-cum-sale in the handicraft segment include cane and bamboo furniture, basketry, small handicrafts from Assam, Tripura, dry flower from Nagaland, kuna mat and cushion etc from Manipur, sital patty and bags etc from Assam, incense sticks from Tripura, wood carving from Meghalaya, jewellery, bangle, top etc from Rajasthan, Hyderabad, wood carving from Rajasthan, U.P Orissa, woollen carpet from Arunachal Pradesh.
The fair also offers many handloom options for women customers to shop viz Assam silk saree, mekhala chador etc, Manipuri silk and cotton saree, dress material dupatta etc, bed cover from Manipur, Delhi, U.P, Andhra Rajasthan, Gujarat etc, ladies dress materials, saree etc from U.P, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, khadi items from Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal, Orissa etc and many other product of handicrafts & handloom from different states.
