The Calcutta High Court, on Monday, granted bail to the Divisional Forest Officer of Diglipur, R Ajay Kumar, accused of sexual harassment by five female employees of the Diglipur  Forest Division. After hearing the bail application, the Court granted relief to the accused, placed under suspension, reportedly with the direction to cooperate with the investigation.
The police had earlier issued a non-bailable warrant against the accused after the District & Sessions Court rejected the bail plea following expiry of the anticipatory bail period. The police had constituted special teams to locate the accused, who reportedly went into hiding after the registration of the FIRs. After the High Court order, the police are likely to withdraw the police team deployed outside the residence of the DFO after his suspension. The Lt Governor, A&N Islands, approved the suspension of the DFO on June 15, 2017 which also received approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, New Delhi.
