Heavy rains since last night has left many low lying areas in the city particularly Mohanpura inundated throwing normal life out of gear on Wednesday. Heavy rains swamped the streets and flooded the clogged drains forcing the rain water to enter homes and commercial outlets.
“Mohanpura, the chief victim of the recurrent water-logging problem, was flooded in the monsoon’s heavy lashes today. A vast area of the busy stretch was witnessed inundated due to drains and caused traffic snags. Commercial establishments in the region reportedly suffered property losses as rain water gushed into their business premises after the cloudburst. “The authorities should immediately take steps to set right the sewerage issues in Mohanpura. We are suffering huge losses due to rain water flooding and expect authorities to rid us of the stress,” said a shopkeeper of Mohanpura.
“Monsoon brings misery for the residents of the city. Overflowing nallahs, inundated roads continue to irk people after the onset of the rainy season as authorities seem to care two hoots to address the situation. Mohanpura is the worst affected region during the monsoon. The entire stretch from Phoenix Bay Jetty to the Gandhi Statue gets overwhelmed with sewage water and motorists as well as pedestrians have to tire negotiating the inundated stretch. The STS as well as the private bus stand gets flooded with rain water giving a harrowing time to commuters during the season. A number of deaths have also been reported after people fell into overflowing nallahs in the region in the past. Fear of electrocution spread of vector borne diseases due to flooding are among other issues demanding the attention of the authorities since long,” lamented some others.
