Home Guard Raising Day celebrated

The Andaman & Nicobar Home Guard Organization celebrated its Raising Day at Drill Hall, Police Lines on Wednesday. An impressive ceremonial parade consisting of four platoons of the Home Guards (including one platoon of Lady Home Guards) headed by Mr Naveen Kumar, Assistant Commandant/IRBn as Parade Commander was held, in which Ms. Nuzhat Hassan, Director General of Police, A&N Islands took the salute of the ceremonial parade. Around 300 Police personnel of A&N Police/IRBn and Home Guards personnel were present to witness this grand event.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest lauded the services rendered by the Home Guard personnel. The Home Guard Voluntary Organization was established in the country in the year 1962 and in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the same was established on 10/10/1965 for use in emergencies and for other purpose in the Union Territory. Presently, the Home Guards are being deployed at various units under A&N Police for Law & Order, Traffic Management and other multifarious duties. Besides, Home Guards are being deployed at various vital installations like VSI Airport, ISPW, District Jail, Special Bureau, PBMC, Juvenile Home, etc.
During this function, the Director General of Police congratulated and presented the President’s Home Guard Medal for Meritorious Service to HG(R)/221 M.V. Prasannakumar, which was awarded to him on the eve of Republic Day-2016. The Chief Guest concluded the speech by expressing best wishes to all Home Guard personnel. The Raising Day celebration was held under the supervision of Ms. Usha Rangnani, Commandant, A&N Home Guard Organization.
