In times when people more often show their selfish sides to others, the honest act of one personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion here has got people talking. A poor  resident of  Duke Nagar, Billyground in Middle Andaman lost the wallet containing Rs 68,000 last Saturday among other documents. With the wallet, the poor  person also lost all hopes of getting it back as not a lot of people come across a cash-loaded wallet, and if they do, it’s highly unlikely that they would return it at all. But PRO of IRBn Salman did.
Manoranjan Mondal and his wife, Arti Mondal, resident of Duke Nagar boarded a bus from their native village to travel to Port Blair for the treatment of the latter. A private worker by profession, Manoranjan Mondal and his family was solely dependent on arecanut farming for their livelihood and the savings of Rs 68,000 was meant for the treatment of his wife, Arti. After reaching Port Blair, the couple realized that the wallet containing the money was lost somewhere between the journey. After frantic search at every possible place, the couple lodged a missing complaint with the police.
The lost wallet was found by the driver of the same STS bus, Ishaq Ali, who handed over the purse to his son, Salman, PRO IRBn (151840/SO). Salman promptly called the Police Control Room and informed about the article containing the cash. Cops called Manoranjan Mondal and the cash loaded wallet was handed over to him by the IRBn personnel. “I never thought I would be able to get back my hard earned money. I will remain indebted to the police particularly Salman because of whom I would now be able to get my spouse treated,” stated Mondal.
