ICAR-KVK trains women on value addition in agri. practices

The ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, N & M Andaman, organized a three days training programme on 13th ,14th and 16th August 2018 on ‘Women Empowerment through Processing and Value Addition in Fruits and Vegetables for farmers/farmwomen of N & M Andaman at Burma Kona, Swadesh Nagar ward No-3. The training was inaugurated in presence of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, PRI members and others. While addressing the gathering, Dr. B. L. Kasinath spoke about role of women empowerment for achieving sustainable economic development of our nation. He also discussed about the ways and means of attaining empowerment through entrepreneurship and skill development. 
Dr. Pooja kapoor, SMS (Home Science), course co-ordinator of the programme, discussed about the objectives and contents of three days training programme. Importance and need of value added products in achieving nutritional security , establishment of small scale processing centres for income generation, Role of underutilized fruits & vegetables in our daily diet, Marketing strategies & linkages for value added products ,ways of enhancing the quality of life of rural population were discussed in detail by SMS’s of KVK,N & M Andaman. Dr. Shardul Vikram Lal, SMS (Animal Sc.) discussed about the Government welfare schemes for the farmers. The training also included practical demonstrations on preparation of different value added products from locally available seasonal fruits. A total number of 33 participants from SHG benefited from the training programme. The training was organized under the supervision of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head, N & M Andaman and under the guidance of Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, and Port Blair.
