The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre, Port Blair has been functioning here in these islands since 2006. The Information-cum-Reception Counter is providing services at the second floor of Kannada Sangha Building. Due to the flexibility in admissions of IGNOU, the Regional Centre has some senior citizens, physically challenged, visually impaired, pregnant women, as its registered learners. To facilitate such group of learners, the Regional Centre opened a special ‘Facilitation Centre’ at ground floor of Kannada Sangha building. The counter is located just at the entrance gate so that one can easily reach from road. The ramp provides smooth path and removes steps climbing.
As part of celebration of 'International Day of Persons with Disability', the Regional Centre has opened this special counter. General public and other students can also avail the services from the same. The counter was inaugurated on Monday by IGNOU learner (person with disability) namely Ms. Moshmi Hira, student of Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education.
