Having clinched the numero uno spot in the recently SGFI National School Games last year, the school sqay contingent representing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the prestigious tournament have been facing administrative apathy for the past more than five months. As per reports, all the participants of the 63rd SGFI National School Sqay Martial Art Championship for U-17 (Boys & Girls) held in December last year have not yet been given their participation certificates creating serious disappointment among students of these islands.
“More than five months have passed since the SGFI Sqay National Championship concluded, but the administration has paid no heed towards the need to hand over participation certificates to the participants.  The delay has badly affected students in their co-curricular activities. Some failed in their exams, while some scored low as they were not given additional marks for participating in sports events. Even officials of the contingent have not been paid their travelling and stay allowances till date. The administration should take a serious note and do the needful to hand over participation certificates to all the 20 members of the contingent,” said a sqay martial art trainee.
The team from A&N Islands lifted the prestigious 63rd SGFI National School Sqay Martial Art Championship for U-17 (Boys & Girls). A&N Islands last year with 10 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals leaving behind Delhi in the second place with 3 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze and Jammu & Kashmir in third with 3 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals.
