A three-member team of TDS wing of Income Tax Department raided the head office of Canara Bank located in front of the Clock Tower at Aberdeen Bazar on Tuesday. According to sources, the raid team comprising  three officials got hold of documents, which were taken into hold after observing all official formalities, for further investigation.
The city has witnessed a spate of raids by the department sending many a business establishments into a tizzy. Investigation of bank's TDS related defaults is under investigation in the raid led by Income Tax Officer (TDS) Mr. Vikas Kumar Golden. The TDS wing of Income Tax Department has been quite active for some time now. All the people who have not filed the TDS returns of the three years of the current financial year are still being raided.
If sources are to be believed, the Income Tax Department is in no mood to give any concessions. The Income Tax Department has plans to intensify TDS surveys so that strict action can be taken against defaulters. The department has also prepared a list of regular defaulters. If they do not pay their default to the department by default, then they have also been prepared to carry out the prosecution against them. It should be known that the department had also conducted TDS awareness seminar in the month of November before taking action, in which hundreds of detractors and their representatives participated.
When attempts were made to contact IT officials, all of them, who were part of the raiding team, refused to comment and asked this Correspondent to contact the authorised officer for information.
