JNRM observes Martyrdom Day with patriotic fervour

The department of Historical Studies, JNRM observed Martyrdom Day at JNRM on Friday with patriotic zeal. Organised by the students of the Historical Studies, the day commemorates the hanging of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev by the British government on 23rd March 1931 at Lahore. The chief guest Mr. Harinarayan Arora and guest of honour Mr. Sharda Ram, prominent senior citizens of A and N Islands graced the event. Dr. Kanwar Chanderdeep Singh, HOD, Historical Studies stressed on need to hold such programmes. Dr. N. Francis Xavier, Principal JNRM hailed the sacrifices of the revolutionaries and underpinned the role of these Islands especially the Cellular Jail in the national struggle. The guests lauded the efforts of the students, department and the college for keeping the light of patriotism and nationalism ignited among the youth. Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs, followed by a documentary movie on Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The dignitaries distributed prizes to the winners of the inter-departmental quiz competition held a day before on the theme of Indian freedom movement. Screening of ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ was held. The event enlightened the enthusiaistis students of JNRM who through lectures, documentaries, photos and films got a chance to glance into the lives of the martyrs who had sacrificed everything for the cause of motherland.
