LG instructs civic officials to complete pending projects in coordination with administrative agencies

Visit to Haddo and Buniyadabad

The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi visited PBMC Ward No. 1 & 2 at Haddo & Ward No. 8 at Buniyadabad on Monday. The OSD to LG, Mr PK Singh, Chairperson, PBMC, Mr B. Eswar Rao, Councilor, Ward No. 1, Mr Karunakaran, Councilor, Ward No. 2, Mr R. Someshwar Rao, Secretary, (Edn./ Sports), Smt Tanvi Garg, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Mr Udit Prakash Rai, CE, APWD (i/c) Mr Shivrama Subramanyam, Joint Secretary, PBMC, Mr Santosh Prakash, SE, APWD, Mr Tej Bahadur Singh, Officers from Education Department and other Senior Officers of the Administration were present during the visit.
The visit commenced from Sunder Colony at Haddo, where the Councilor, Ward No. 2, Mr Someshwar Rao apprised the Lt. Governor of the need to develop a playground at Sunder Colony. The land for the proposed playground belongs to Revenue Department but is under occupation of Agriculture Department. Accordingly, the Lt. Governor directed PBMC to develop a play ground in the vacant land as part of the Smart City Project for which the Agriculture Department would part with the land.
During the visit to Buniyadabad Diggi area, the Councillor, Ward No. 8, Mr K. Ganeshan briefed the Lt. Governor about the pending project pertaining to development of a pond near Coast Guard Residential Area, Panipat Road, with facilities such as footpath, hand railing, benches/steps and kiosk etc. Accordingly, the Lt. Governor issued direction to PBMC to find out about availability of the fund, to be used for the project. If not, new fund from Smart City Project can be used for the project, he said. The Lt. Governor further directed PBMC to complete the work by December  31, 2017, for its inauguration by the first week of Jan, 2018. The PBMC has assured that tender will be floated in a month’s time; and the work will commence within two months.
While inspecting the dilapidated vacant wooden quarters of APWD at Haddo, the Lt. Governor directed APWD to furnish status report of all the quarters available in the Islands. He further directed that no new flats shall be constructed by APWD until and unless all vacant quarters are renovated and allotted. Therefore, the demand put forth by the Councilor, Ward No. 1, Mr Karunakaran, for construction of playground at the same site shall be taken up after addressing the comprehensive development plan of APWD, the Lt Governor said.
Thereafter, the Lt. Governor visited Peter Barrack, PWD quarters at Haddo, where he noticed encroachment of the area. Accordingly, the Lt. Governor has fixed responsibility on APWD to take action against the persons who do not take any step to vacate the encroached area. This was followed by a visit to Nature Park and Interpretation Centre at Haddo. The PCCF and Pr. Secy, Department of Environment and Forests, Mr M.S.Negi and the APCCF(P&D), Mr D. M. Shukla appraised the Lt. Governor about the upcoming park which will be a public utility space dedicated to showcasing biological richness of the Islands, in a recreational way. The Lt. Governor expressed happiness on the pace of development of the park and appreciated the concept of the project. He also gave directions for further beautification of the spot. The Lt. Governor directed the Forest Department to establish the park with highest standard and quality with people friendly amenities. He desired that the development of the park be completed at the earliest.
At Govt. Middle School at Laltha Singh Ground, Haddo, the Lt. Governor interacted with the students and teachers. He also directed the Secretary (Edn. / Sports) to ensure that the students, after passing out from class X, are allowed to continue studying in the same school, up to class XII.  He said, admission to class XI in the same school is a direct process and cannot be denied, except in cases of change of school.
The Secretary (Edn. /Sports), Smt. Tanvi Garg also briefed the Lt. Governor about the plan for construction of a Mini Stadium at Laltha Singh Ground, Haddo, Ward No. 1. Accordingly, the Lt. Governor directed the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman for immediate eviction of the encroachments from over a part of the Laltha Singh Ground. He further stated that work for construction of ‘sit out’ area of Mini Stadium will commence soon besides construction of a retaining wall and other facilities. The Lt. Governor also interacted with the youth of the area and assured them of making available the required facilities.
During the visit to Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Telugu Medium, Haddo, the Lt. Governor enquired about the delay in work allotment for development of prayer ground in the school premises and directed the APWD to expedite the works and complete it in a month’s time. He further directed that other renovation work of the school should be expedited and completed by September, 2017. The Lt. Governor also interacted with the students and enquired about the facilities available in the school. He also inspected the toilet facility for boys and girls and expressed displeasure over poor maintenance of the washrooms. He issued immediate directions to APWD to install taps and ensure proper supply of water, within a day’s time. He said, under ‘Swachch Bharat Mission’, the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi has been stressing on the need to provide proper toilet facilities to students in schools, which must be ensured in our Islands too. The Lt. Governor also directed APWD to cover up the open pit in front of the Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Telugu Medium, Haddo immediately.
The Councillor, Ward No. 1, Mr Someshwar Rao also informed the Lt. Governor about the usage of unhealthy substances by students, which needs to be monitored thoroughly. Accordingly, the Lt. Governor directed the SHO Chatham to keep strict vigil and ensure that no such activity prevails in the area.
