LG revises minimum wages

The Lt Governor, A&N Islands has revised minimum wages across 6 schedules of employment and for DRMs working under Andaman & Nicobar Administration w.e.f  01.01.2018. The administration had constituted Minimum Wages Advisory committee on 25.07.2017. The Committee gave its recommendations which was put in public domain for inviting claims and suggestions for a period of 60 days after which the Lt. Governor approved the revised rate. The rate shall be uniform across all 3 Districts and all 6 Schedules of employment. The revised rates are:-
Category of employee –Minimum wage per day : Unskilled - Rs 437, Semi - Skilled/Unskilled supervisory -  Rs.494, Skilled - Rs 579, Clerical - Rs 579 and Highly Skilled - Rs 637.
The Administration has been revising minimum wages every six months i.e., January and July, the last revision was on January 2017 whereas due to no change in Average All India Consumer price Index the Minimum Wages remained static in July 2017. hence, no revision took place in July 2017. This was as per the accepted calculation formula of 2010. The notification of Minimum wages is available on the website www.and.nic.in as well as www.labour.and.nic.in and all the stakeholders like Govt. departments as part of ‘Paperless Office’ won’t be circulating the hard copies of the same. All the establishments, private as well as govt. are hereby directed to comply with the revised rates failing which punitive action as per the Minimum Wages Act of 1948 shall be initiated.
