Mahapadav’ dharnas at various places in the isles

In support of the Mahapadav organised by central trade unions against the anti-worker, anti-people and anti-national policies of the BJP-led government at Parliament Street, New Delhi, CITU and INTUC jointly organised a mass dharna at Tiranga Park, Port Blair followed by a public meeting presided over by Mr. B. Chandrachoodan, general secretary, CITU A & N State Committee who criticised the anti-labour policies by the NDA at the centre referring to the insensitive privatisation-spree on banking, insurance, telecommunication and defence production sectors and called upon  the government employees and workers to  raise their voice.
Mr. Gyan Prakash, general secretary, INTUC  A & N Committee referred to the hardship faced by the workers  both in government and private sectors here. Mr. S. P. Kalairajan, circle secretary, BSNL Employees Union decried the importance given to private tele-companies at the cost of government-owned BSNL and MTNL. Mr. S. L. Vinjit of Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association expressed concern over the non-fulfilment of the assurances given by the Group of Ministers to the staff during 2016 for upward revision of minimum wages and issues related to the 7th Central Pay Commission.  Mr. P. Kannan (GEF), Mr.  Mohd. Rafique and Mr. Rasheed (INTUC) also addressed the meeting. At Diglipur, mass dharna was organised by CITU at Diglipur Bazar from 8.30 am till evening followed by a massive procession and public meeting.  Mr. Madan Mohan Das, Mr. AVA Samad, Mr. Barun Biswas and Mr. Dilip Karmakar (CITU) addressed at the mass dharna and public meeting. At Baratang, a big procession was taken out at Nilambur by CITU led by Mr. Daniel Aint and Mr. Jayakumar.
