Mahila Kisan Divas celebrated at Rampur

The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, N & M Andaman, celebrated Mahila Kisan Divas on Monday at Panchayat Hall, Rampur in North Andaman. The programme was inaugurated by Smt Nachiammal, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Mayabunder in the presence of Naw Seviah, Pradhan, Rampur, Saw Father Setae, Dr. B.L Kasinath, Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK, N & M Andaman and PRI members.
Smt. Nachiamma appreciated the efforts of KVK for motivating the farm women & spreading awareness about the key role of women in agricultural and allied sectors. She also urged farm women to adopt IFS model to increase their income. Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan, Rampur requested the farm women to form SHG’s and take up self employment for increasing income of the family. Dr. B.L Kasinath encouraged the women to take up agripreneurship by availing government schemes and also highlighted the importance of organic farming. Dr. Pooja Kapoor, SMS (Home Science), briefed the gathering about the significance of celebrating Mahila Kisan Divas and also discussed about vital contribution of women in agriculture & allied sectors. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries) briefed about the role of rural women in doubling their income. Dr. Shardul Vikram Lal, SMS (Animal Sc.) discussed about contribution of women in Pashu Palan. Er.Manoj Kumar discussed about smaller farm tools to be employed for reducing labour input cos.
Competitions like extempore and quiz was conducted for rural farm women, which witnessed an overwhelming response from the rural participants.  Altogether 62 farm women from various panchayats participated in the programme. The programme was organized under the supervision of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK N&M Andaman and under the guidance of Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
