The TDS Wing of Income Tax Department here raided Mohan Automotives Private Limited (Mohan Ford) on Thursday. According to sources, tax related defaults  (Tax Deducted at Source)  to the tune of lakhs were detected in the raid led by Income Tax Officer (TDS), Mr Vikash Kumar Golden. Earlier, on February  5, the TDS Wing of Income Tax Department here raided the office of the Executive Engineer of South Andaman Zilla Parishad under the leadership of Mr. Golden, where the recent TDS related discrepancies were highlighted. Earlier, the TDS Wing conducted survey in Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Bank in September, where TDS defaults of crores came to notice after which the department recovered pending taxes worth crores of rupees from the bank.
The TDS wing of Income Tax Department has been quite active for some time now. According to the information, the bank accounts of long time defaulting deducters are being attached. All the people who have not filed the TDS returns of the three quarters of the current financial year are being raided. The Income Tax Department appears to be in no mood to afford any concessions to defaulters this time around.
Sources inform that the Income Tax Department has plans to make the campaign of TDS surveys more intense so that strict action can be taken against the defaulters. The department has also prepared a list of regular defaulters. If they do not pay their default to the department by default, then they have to be prepared for prosecution. The department had earlier conducted TDS awareness seminar in the month of November last year before taking action, in which hundreds of detractors and their representatives participated. The Income Tax Officer (TDS) Mr. Vikash Kumar Golden, who was leading the raid at Mohan Automotives Pvt Ltd, could not be contacted for an official comment.
