The children of Makarthi Valley, a settlement in the remote forest area of Kadamtala, Middle Andaman participated in a "Sit-Draw-Colur" and story-telling session organised by Coastal Green Zone, a volunteer run initiative to conserve coastal and terrestrial ecosystem, which organises Sunday outdoor classes for children. The children in the age group of 5 to12 years made pictures of mud houses, paddy fields, green forests with vibrant colours. Santosh, a student of class 7th drew a picture of rhinoceros which he had never seen but wants to see in real life.
Painting and drawing is an important outlet for children who do not yet have the verbal skills to communicate their feelings. In this session a moral story,  "The Boy and the Drum" was narrated to participants .They listened the story attentively and shared their views regarding the moral of the story. Storytelling encourages and enhances the listening skills of children and which provides them necessary training to listen and understand more, instead of talking. In the concluding session, children presented a melodious Ranchi song.
