Mass demonstration by CITU against price rise

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions throughout the country organised Mass Dharna and Mass Demonstration on Wednesday to protest against the rising  prices.  In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, trade unions affiliated to CITU organised mass procession, demonstration, mass dharna, etc. at various places. At Port Blair, Mass Dharna was organised at Tiranga Park in which leaders of various unions participated.   On conclusion of the Dharna, a mass procession was taken out in the Port Blair town which culminated in a public meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Mr B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee came down heavily on the central government and A & N Administration for the  unchecked price rise in the islands.  He said that prices of vegetables, fish, and all other food items are increasing in the islands and the Administration remains a silent spectator.  The poor workers are unable to pull on the days during these days of steep prices. Speaking on the occasion, Mr TS Sreekumar, General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association expressed concern over the unfavourable attitude of the central government towards the issues of government employees. He said that despite repeated directions of the successive Lt. Governors a large number of posts in various departments of the Administration are lying vacant. Mr M. Boominathan, President, CITU State Committee presided over the meeting.
At Rangat, mass procession by workers and employees was taken out at Rangat Bazar.  Leaders of Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association Mr Natarajan and Mr Adaickan and Mr VK Krishnadas of CITU addressed the participants in the procession.   At Kadamtala, a mass procession by workers was taken out at the Kadamtala bazaar. CITU leaders Smt Shipra Paul and Mr Amaresh led the procession. At Baratang, a massive procession by workers of Forest, APWD, etc. was taken out at Nilambur which was led by CITU leaders Mr Jayakumar and Mr Daniel Aint.
