The South Andaman Teachers’ Branch (SATB) affiliated to the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A & N Islands staged a big protest in front of the Directorate of Education, VIP Road here on Thursday. Members of the association shouted slogans against top brass of the UT administration for neglecting the legitimate rights of teachers working in the department for the past several years.
Major among the demands included regularization of Ad-hoc services from initial date of appointment, timely promotion of various categories of teachers, issues in the Annual General Transfer -2017, timely confirmation, shifting of Tusnabad DDO from DEO, Wimberlygunj to GSSS Tusnabad, payment of ISDA arrears, timely award of MACP, timely publication of Seniority List and posting of a regular Director for Education department. The mass demonstration is the first phase of multi-phased agitation programme planned by the South Andaman Teachers’ Branch. The Association has decided to continue its agitation till the settlement of the demands as the Department has failed to initiate concrete steps on decades old issues like regularization of Ad-hoc service from initial date of appointment etc.
