Massive dharna by CITU, NGGOA

In support of the 2-day All India Strike called by 10 Central Trade Unions and Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers, New Delhi, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A & N Islands started 2-day evening dharna on Tuesday at Tiranga Park here. Inaugurating the Dharna, Mr B Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU said more than 20 crores of workers and employees are forced to organise strike as the Govt. of India is not ready to settle genuine demands of employees and workers. He said violations of labour laws are frequent in these islands and workers are facing vindictive actions by officers with tacit support of labour department.
Mr TS Sreekumar, General Secretary, of NGOs’ Association explained in detail about the Charter of Demands of the National Strike. Mr S.P.Kalairajan, Circle Secretary, BSNL Employees Union, Mr S.L.Vinjit, Secretary, South Andaman Teachers Branch, Smt Nasreen Begum, Organising Secretary, NGOs’ Association, Mr Bhoominathan, President, CITU, Mr Gopal Ch. Dey, SATB etc. addressed the gathering. A large number of workers and govt. employees participated in the Dharna.
