Mock exercises on quake, tsunami at Havelock

In order to sensitize people about disasters and also to assess and enhance disaster preparedness, a Mock Exercise on earthquake followed by tsunami was successfully conducted at Havelock today, which was jointly by NDRF, Directorate of Disaster Management and District Administration, South Andaman. Earlier a team of about 55 Jawans and Officers of NDRF led by Shri Nishith Upadhyay, Commandant, 2nd Bn. NDRF, West Bengal, Shri Govind Ram, Director, Disaster Management, A&N Administration, Shri Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Logistics) and Shri Rajesh Chaudhary, Assistant Commissioner, South Andaman reached Havelock yesterday and conducted a Table Top Exercise at the Conference Hall of Dolphin Yatri Niwas, in which officers of all the Departments and representatives  of PRIs participated.
In the actual Mock Exercise, besides the major line departments such as revenue, police, fire Services, Forest and APWD, all other Departments and Panchayati Raj Institutions whole-heartedly participated and made the exercise a grand success. Shri R.K Panchnanda, Director General, NDRF accompanied by Miss. Rekha Nambiar, Sr. Commandant NDRF 4th Btn.. Arrakonam, Tamil Nadu inspected the Mock Exercise during its actual conduct. Director General, NDRF appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Disaster Management, District Administration and his Officers and Jawans. He also presented a memento to the Incident Commander, Shri Rajesh Chaudhary, Assistant Commissioner and also gifted a some of Rs. 5000/- to the Gram Panchayat. After the Mock Exercise a de-briefing session was also held at the Conference Hall of Dolphin Yatri Niwas. The Chief Secretary, A&N Admn. Shri Anindo Majumder had appreciated the efforts of all the Departments and PRIs, in conducting the mock drill.
