Even as the city is struggling to cope with the burgeoning vehicular population, majority of the parking lots in the city have been encroached upon by obsolete and in-operational vehicles. Several non-operational vehicles including trucks can be seen parked in almost all parking spaces managed by the Municipal Council leaving genuine motorists deprived of parking spaces.  “The growing population of vehicles in the city often grinds traffic movement particularly during rush hours. People don’t find adequate spaces in the Parking Lots in different parts of the city and are forced to park the vehicles along the roadside. Misuse of parking lots has escalated in the recent months as several obsolete vehicles can been occupying spaces in the parking lots in almost every part of the city. However, the agencies concerned have failed to ensure proper utilization of the parking lots in the city,” lamented some motorists. “The Traffic Police and the Municipal Council should collaborate and evolve measures to ensure proper utilization of parking spaces in the city. Owners of obsolete vehicles found parked in the Parking Lots should be penalized and strict instructions should be issued to immediately vacate the spaces for the benefit of motorists,” said some others.
