Following the demands by the staff engaged under MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme under RD department in A&N Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands in a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands has demanded for revision of consolidated salary of the staff of MGNREGA since the consolidated salary last revised by the Administration w.e.f. 01.06.2012 is still force and is very less than the salary being paid to the similar categories of employees  engaged in other schemes/projects like NRHM etc who draws wages double to the MGNREGA staff. In his letter, Mr. Ray has further written that the salary now being paid to the MGNREGA staff is even also less than DRMs whose wages have been revised across the A&N Islands w.e.f. 01.01.2018 for all the categories in both the sectors (Govt/Private). Taking into such hike of wages for DRMs as well as increase of living cost and price index in the local market, Mr. Ray has urged the UT Administration to revise the existing consolidated salary of MGNREGA staff at the earliest.
