MP writes to Tribal Welfare, Home Ministry

Various communities including the Schedule Castes from the different part of country have migrated and settled in this Territory since 1949 and thereafter, but due to absent of constitutional notification of recognition in this UT Islands, the communities have lost their original status of their homestate. These communities are consistently demanding protection of their rights and to register their status as Schedule Caste in this territory. Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament has taken up the matter with the Ministry of Tribal Welfare, Govt. of India  with sustainable justification vide letter  dated 02.01.2018. The MP has requested the Home Ministry for promulgation of law of domicile to protect the interest of bona-fide islanders too.
Mr. Ray has submitted a letter vide dated 02.01.2018 to Mr. Rajnath Singh, Minister of Home Affairs, Govt. of India  and requested  to re-look  the proposal  of the Administration for promulgation of Regulation ‘A & N Islands Public Employment(Requirement as to residents)under Act,44 or  through a Bill under Article,371(after Article,371 K  of  Andhra Pradesh)’ for the benefit of local educated youth belonging to bona-fide residents of this Territory. In reference to previous all correspondences, Mr. Ray further added that since UPA-I and UPA- II Govt., he continuously fought for the process for promulgation of law of domicile. He said there is considerable anxiety amongst the youth on account of un-employment. As on date out of almost 4 lakh population, around 50,000 educated youth have registered their wishes with the Employment Exchange, Port Blair.
