NABARD PB celebrates 36th foundation day

NABARD, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Office, Port Blair celebrated its 36th Foundation Day on Wednesday in its office premises.  Mr Anindo Majumdar, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration was the chief guest on the occasion, which also marked the 25th anniversary of SHG movement in the country pioneered by NABARD.
Appreciating the efforts made by NABARD in promotion of agriculture and rural development in the Islands, Mr Majumdar assured full support from the A&N Administration for ushering in the mandate of rural development. He outlined certain focus areas like vegetable cultivation, high value agriculture, fisheries, horticulture, skill development, etc. as the key areas of development to be focused in the Island. He emphasized on the need for more closer coordination between NABARD and various Govt. Depts. while implementing developmental programmes. While presenting the SHG Awards, he appreciated and congratulated the award winning SHGs/SHPIs and Bank Officials for their excellence and urged them to continue performing with the same vigour in the coming years.
Mr BVS Prasad, General Manager, NABARD, A&N RO said that he along with his Team have been supporting credit as well as developmental activities in the Islands such as promotion of SHGs and JLGs, capacity building and strengthening of the cooperatives, providing marketing and technology induction in agriculture through transfer of technology/training to farmers, promotion of FPOs etc.  He said that with the active support from the A&N Administration, NABARD’s dream to secure rural prosperity in the Islands would be fulfilled.
The celebration was also attended by Government Officials, Bankers, representatives from research institutions and NGOs/ SHGs. During the SHG function awards were handed over by the Chief Secretary to best-performing Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)/branches of ANStCB who promoted SHGs.
NABARD also distributed Six Solar Copra dryers to NGOs for usage of SHG members.  Mr Majumdar handed over the first such machine to Yuvashakti  NGO to be placed at South Andaman.  The other five were handed over by Mr Ramesh Verma, Secretary (Agriculture), Mr Udit Prakash Rai, Secretary (RD) and Dr. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI to Voice of Compassion, ACANI &Surabi NGOs to be placed at different locations in A&N Islands.
