New rules for solid waste handling, management

The Port Blair Municipal Council Solid Waste (Handling and Management) Bye Laws 2017 has been notified in A & N Gazette and it has empowered Port Blair Municipal Council to undertake actions on the individuals/organizations who are violating/contravening the provisions of the aforesaid bye laws. The Port Blair Municipal Council will also impose user charges as per the provisions of the bye laws. The imposition of fines and user charges will start from July 1.
In order to inform the citizens of Port Blair city about the Port Blair Municipal Council Solid Waste (Handling and Management) Bye Laws 2017 a month long extensive door to door awareness campaign will be done in all the 24 wards of Port Blair city. On this initiative Port Blair Municipal Council started its campaign at Mohanpura Market, Shiv Ram Market till Gandhi Market, Ratna Market, Municipal Market near State Bank, Municipal Market near petrol pump till light house building, Meshack market towards Ganesh Temple on left side of the road, Ganesh Temple towards babulane, opposite side of Ganesh temple Road till Shri. Sohan Rangaiah Builsing and covering Hotel K.P Bengal, Farzand Ali Market till Shri Ram Mandir, Tillai Bakery via gagan restaurant till Devraj clinic building, Old Hundai building till Annapurana Hotel, CCS building including Farzand old market and adjoining premises, Mr Laxmi Motors till Hotel Jaimathi, either side of road behind light house building including Hindi Sahitya Kala Parishad Lane till PS Aberdeen.
Ten groups comprising of 80 Officials/ staffs of Port Blair Municipal Council were involved in the campaign.  On the eve of “World Environment Day” to be held on 5th June 2017 when 4041 cities of India including our Port Blair city will undertake door to door collection with segregation of waste at source level, it is once again appealed to the citizens of Port Blair city to keep the dry & wet waste generated in their house/ shop/ factories in two different bins, one in blue for dry waste and one in green for wet waste and provide the same to the Port Blair Municipal Council, Sanitary workers coming to their door step. The civic body has appealed all citizens of Port Blair city to help Port Blair Municipal Council keep the city Port Blair city neat & clean.
