NSSO celebrates Statistics Day befittingly in isles

The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) here celebrated Statistics Day in a befitting manner on Friday. In his address, Mr S Prakash, Senior Statistical Officer said that the objective of celebrating Statistics Day is to create awareness among the people especially the younger generation and motivate them to draw inspiration from late P.C.Mahalanobis. “Youngsters must know about the role of statistics in Socio-Economic planning and policy formulation”, he added. He also informed that the theme chosen for this year’s Statistics Days is “Quality Assurance in Official Statistics “. During the function, prizes were distributed to the winners of essay and quiz competitions organised as part of the Statistics Day Celebration. Kumari B. Geeta Rani bagged the Ist Prize while Mr Joseph Das and Smti. Deepti Kumari got the second and third prizes respectively in the Essay competition. Naveen Singh was awarded the consolation prize.
In the quiz competition, Kumari B.Geeta Rani again bagged the first prize while Mr K Mohammed Sheheer and Smti. Deepti Kumari got second and third prizes respectively.  Kumari B.Lavanya was awarded the consolation prize. Mr Anoop Rai, Junior Statistical Officer thanked the guest, participants and the members of the Regional Office, NSSO for making Statistics Day a successful event. Government of India in the year 2007, designated 29th June as the “Statistics Day” in the category of Special Days to be celebrated every year at the National level in recognition of the notable contributions made by Late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the fields of statistics, statistical system and economic planning.
