Orders inter-departmental coordination for early launch of Cath Lab

The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi visited the GB Pant Hospital on Thursday. He was accompanied by the Principal Secretary (Health), Shri S C L Das, Secretary to the Lt Governor, Dr A. K. Singla, Senior Consultant Medical Specialist, GB Pant Hospital, Dr. Shiv Shankar Singh, DHS (i/c), Dr. Avijit Roy and other senior doctors of GB Pant Hospital.
During the visit, the Lt. Governor inspected the OPD Registration Counter, Casualty Ward, Blood Bank, Laboratories, ICU/MICU, Dialysis Unit, Kitchen, Nursing Home, Pediatric Ward, OT complex along with the upcoming Cath Lab site, Sick Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU), Incinerator Unit for disposal of biomedical wastes, Psychiatric Ward, ECG Room and De-addiction ward. The Lt. Governor also inspected the new building of Burns, Eye & Cancer Wards which are under construction.
The Lt. Governor inspected various wards and enquired about the health facilities provided to the Islanders. He also interacted with the patients at the OPD and assured them that treatments of orthopedic ailments as well as super specialty services will be made available in GB Pant hospital soon and the referral system will be done away with. He directed the Medical Superintendent, GB Pant Hospital to ensure that patients are guided properly to the concerned OPD to ensure smooth functioning of the hospital as well as to save time of the patients waiting to be examined by the physician.
While inspecting the cooked food at the Hospital’s Kitchen, the Lt. Governor enquired about the quality of the food grains and issued directions to the concerned Medical Officers to ensure that quality food grains be purchased for preparing meals for the patients. He further directed that Senior Medical Officers must personally check the cooked food before it is served to the patients. He also desired that inclusive food package be made available to all the patients and the same cooked food be made available to the patients in the Nursing Home as well.
Regarding the upcoming Cath Lab, the Lt. Governor expressed displeasure in the delay of the work and directed the concerned officials to speed up the process of work through inter-departmental cooperation. He directed that both civil works as well as tendering process for equipments be done simultaneously in a time bound manner, so that the Cath Lab is made ready for inauguration and patients are facilitated with the required facility as soon as possible. The concerned officials assured to speed up the process and complete the work in a month’s time.
The Lt. Governor also directed the Principal Secretary (Health) to plan accordingly with the Medical Officers for setting up Neurology and Neurosurgery facilities at GB Pant Hospital by Jan 1, 2018, besides other required Super Specialty services. The Lt. Governor remarked that by Jan 1, 2018, the Islands must be in a position to cater to the needs of the patients in all aspects and the referral system should be done away with.
At the De-addiction Ward, the Lt. Governor interacted with the patients and urged them to give up the habit of drinking alcohol and lead a happy & healthy life. He also interacted with patients at the Psychiatric Wards. At Sick Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU), the Lt. Governor enquired about the functioning of the incubators and phototherapy. He directed the officials concerned to ensure that non functional phototherapy machines be repaired and the required facilities are put in places.
The Lt. Governor visited the Tribal Ward and expressed the desire to know about ethno medicinal practices of the tribes of A&N Islands.   The Lt. Governor also inspected the Incinerator unit for disposal of biomedical wastes and enquired about the quantity of waste generated per day and its disposal process.
