PB Rotary Club, CGZ, ANET collaborate for biodiversity preservation

The Rotary Club of Port Blair and CGZ (Coastal Green Zone, A voluntary initiative to protect coastal ecosystem) with the support of ANET (Andaman Nicobar Environment Team) organised a 2 days Biodiversity Awareness Workshop at ANET, North Wandoor. The workshop was attended by students of all ages mostly from the rural schools. Altogether 55 students participated in this 2 days workshop.
The purpose of this workshop was to learn more about the coastal biodiversity and it's importance. Topics like *"Why birds are important for Biodiversity?" and "What is marine biodiversity?"* were discussed at length with power point presentation by ANET research scholars Dayani Chakravarthy, Anand James Tirkey, Vishal Kujur, Zoya Tyabji, Tanmay Wagh, Sahir Advani, Sadaf Sethwala and Mahira Kakajiwala.
Mr. Chanchal Singha Roy, Founder, CGZ took interactive sessions with the students. The students were made to learn certain topics through *"Eco-Games"*, in which the students participated wholeheartedly and enjoyed. Mr. Pramod Subbarao, accomplished writer and wildlife photography hobbyist and winner of the Sahitya Academy Award of Karnataka came down to the Islands specifically for this 2 days camp. Mr. Pramod took several sessions. He also took the students on a field trip to teach them about "Documentation of biodiversity by means of photography". The students were very happy and excited to experience a new art form.
A painting competition was also conducted during this biodiversity awareness workshop. followed by an art exhibition. The artwork exhibited were from previous biodiversity camps and workshops which CGZ has been organising from time to time at different locations with school kids.  The top five painting from this workshop were given prizes.
