The Rotary Club of Port Blair felicitated the endeavours of the first two women auto rickshaw drivers in the city. Lakshmi was the first to have the courage to enter the predominantly male domain. As the sole bread earner in the family and with two daughters she took the initiative and is a happy mother today. One daughter in the First Year of Hotel Management in DBRAIT Port Blair and the other completed her graduation from JNRM and is slated to pursue her Masters in Sociology. Lakshmi has earned it all herself and become an Inspiration!
Sahanara was inspired by Lakshmi to take up this profession. “If Lakshmi can do it, I can too,” she says. A 10 year old daughter to support, she has been able to make both ends meet from her earnings as an auto rickshaw driver. They exemplify the Rotary theme “Be an Inspiration” as three more have followed their footsteps. The Club President, Rtn Rajesh Anand, Club Treasurer Rtn Amar Gupta and Past President Rtn Abhijit Agarwal honoured Lakshmi and Sahanara recently.
