Coastal Green Zone (CGZ), a children and youth outreach voluntary initiative to protect coastal and marine eco-system and natural environment, organised an environment education cum awareness programme recently at Phooltala village, Kadamtala in Middle Andaman. Altogether 25 children of the village participated in the event. Besides storytelling, power point presentation and discussion on several environment issues, the participated children prepare their village map, natural resources chart, flow chart on food chain and diagrams as a output of the programme. The main focus of the education cum awareness programme was to inculcate a spirit of oneness with the environment in the young minds and also to give the children a chance to get acquainted with local natural resources. The children in the Andaman and Nicobar grow up in an incredibly diverse environment. Living in close proximity to endemic species, tropical forests on one hand and the sea on another hand, they can count themselves as lucky. Awareness programme was conducted not to tell them about the natural wealth on the islands, but to tell them about the importance of natural wealth, so that they might grow up to be guardians.
