One injured in road mishap
A scooty rider suffered head injuries in a road mishap at Mohanpura area on Friday. In the statement to the police, Mr Suresh Mondal, an STS bus driver said he was on bus bearing registration no. AN 01G0087 plying between Shadipur and Bus Terminus. After dropping passengers near Cooperative Bank at around 6.15 am today, he was about to cross the Lighthouse traffic junction when suddenly a two-wheeler rider, on a scooty bearing registration AN 01J6144, without helmet, coming from the right side hit the left part of the bus and collided with a roadside pole. He suffered head injuries and was bleeding profusely and a PCR vehicle rushed him to GB Pant Hospital for treatment, he said in the statement. Police is investigating the matter.

Garacharma man assaulted at home
A 39 year old resident of Garacharma, near Kali Mandir was allegedly assaulted by three persons at his residence on Thursday. In his statement to the police, Ravi Shankar Samaddar, a private worker, said that he and his wife, an  employee in the health department, have been living separately for the past three years. At around 7.40 pm, his wife along with one Manjeet Roy and another person entered the residence of Samaddar and started assaulting him. Neighbours rushed to the rescue of Samaddar after which the three fled from the spot, he said in the statement. Samaddar was rushed to the nearby health centre for treatment. Pahargaon Police is investigating the matter.

IMFL seized
The Pahargaon Police on Thursday arrested a 22 year old person from Garacharma with illicit  IMFL. During routine patrol, Head Constable P Babu Rao and Constables SN Pathak, Bhaskar Rao, Vijay Ram and Manoj Kumar noticed a person carrying a bag in suspicious state near Garacharma Health Centre. Upon search, the police found four bottles of 750ml bottles of IMFL from his bag and the accused, identified as Selvendran, private worker, resident of Garacharma, failed to produce valid documents for the purchase. A case under section 32 Reg. III of 1876 has been registered against the accused.

More held for selling liquor in public
Continuing its drive against illegal sale of liquor, the South Andaman Police on Friday arrested at least five persons from different parts of the city for vending liquor without permit. At Mohanpur near Mutton Market, cops from PS Aberdeen arrested one A. Bala Murugan, 26 years, private worker, resident of Bargat Line, Nayagaon and seized one 750 ml of IMFL and one 180 ml of IMFL from his possession. Near Shiv Ram Complex, cops arrested one Mohd. Safeeque, 30 years, resident of Chandni Chowk and seized one 750ml bottle of IMFL, water bottle and plastic glasses from his possession.
At Vegetable Market, Mohanpura, one Shankar, 35 years, resident of RGT road was arrested and one 750ml bottle of IMFL, disposable glasses and water bottle was seized from his possession. Near Fish Market at Mohanpura, the police arrested one Amar Singh, 38 years, resident of Caddlegunj and seized one 750 ml bottle of IMFL and one plastic glass from his possession. Cops from Central Crime Station arrested one Om Kumar Thapan, 49 years, resident of Phoenix Bay for the same offence from Marine Hall area. Two 750 ml bottle of IMFL and one 180 ml bottle were seized from his possession. All the accused have been booked under section 32 Reg III of 1876. Further investigation is underway.
