Police inquest into report of teen becoming mother on

The Andaman and Nicobar Police has stepped up investigation into the case of a 16 year old becoming mother. After the District Child Protection Unit reported the matter, Aberdeen Police recorded the statement of the girl. Sources said the girl in her  statement said that she delivered a pre-mature baby in the seventh month of her pregnancy. “After 10 days of delivery, the baby developed certain health problems as such I got her admitted in the Sick Newborn Care Unit,” she reportedly said in her statement.
On being asked about documents, the girl said that she was illiterate and has never been to school. “I even don’t possess birth certificate, ration card or any such documents. My father, an alcohol addict, destroyed all available documents”, she said. According to sources, the police have observed varying statements of the girl, her father and husband. Further investigation is underway.
