Port Blair
26 Nov 2017

Due to the problem occurred in Alternator Winding of two DG Units (5 MW each) of 20 M/s. Suryachakra Power Plant, Bambooflat, both the units have become non-functional, resulting in shortfall of power. The repair of these alternators requires experts from mainland alongwith special tools & tackles and spares & equipment and the repair work will take considerable time.
To manage the shortfall of power generation through available power, the Electricity Department is forced to exercise one hour rotational load shedding during the evening peak hours i.e. 5 pm to about 11.30 pm, in Port Blair and South Andaman area, till repairing of both the DG units. In addition for the running maintenance of other DG Units, there may 45 to 60 minutes rotational load shedding during day hours on as and when required basis also be carried out. Detailed load shedding schedule will be issued/published on Monday. The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted and the consumers are requested to bear with the situation, a release from the Power Department said.
