School Line wins cricket tourney named after Birsa Munda

The annual sports extravaganza at remote Baratang in Middle Andaman concluded on Tuesday amid great enthusiasm. In the 5th season of Birsa Munda Knockout Cricket Tournament, School Line beat Fibre XI in an exciting finale to clinch the title. According to reports, altogether 12 teams participated in the tournament. The winning team, School Line bagged cash purse of Rs 20,000 along with a trophy, while the runners-up team was awarded Rs 7500 cash and a trophy. The Medical Officer (In-charge), Primary Health Centre, Baratang, Dr Honey was the chief guest of the final match, while the Vice Principal of Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Oral Katcha, Mr Jolly graced the occasion as the special guest.
Speaking to this correspondent, Mr Biju Gurudasan, the Pradhan, Sundergarh Panchayat, which organizes the tourney, said that the annual event is aimed at inspiring the younger generations here to follow the principles of Birsa Munda. “One of the most noted freedom fighters of our country, Birsa Munda, will remain an inspiration for the coming generations and Sundergarh Panchayat has been conducting the tournament here for the past five years to promote patriotism and motivate the younger generations to be part of nation building,” said Mr Gurudasan.
