Ship fare hike on island-mainland sector notified

Islanders will now have to shell out extra for ship travel as the Shipping Department has notified hike for the financial year 2018-19. The UT administration has approved the revision of passenger fares in the island-mainland sector for various classes of travel for the year 2018-19, which has come into effect from the 1st of this month. Non-islanders opting for ship journey in the island-mainland sector will now have to pay Rs 10755, 8915, 7090 and 2765 for accommodations in the Deluxe Class, First Class Cabin, Second Class Cabin and Bunk class respectively on board vessels MV Swaraj Dweep, Nancowry, Nicobar and Campbell Bay for the year 2018-19 while islanders will have to pay Rs 5565, Rs 5020, 3780/- and Rs 1020/- for travel in Deluxe Class, First Class Cabin, Second Class Cabin and Bunk class respectively.
Similarly, non-islanders intending to travel on MV Harshavardhana will have to pay Rs 10755/, Rs 8915/-, Rs 7090, Rs 5470 and Rs 2765 while islanders will pay Rs 5565, Rs 5020, Rs 3780, 3330 and Rs 1020 for Deluxe Class, First Class Cabin, Second Class A Cabin, Second Class B and Bunk class bookings. In MV Akbar, passengers will have to shell out Rs 10755, Rs 7605, Rs 4620 and Rs 2405 for Deluxe, 1st Class Cabin, AC Dormitory and Bunk class accommodations while islanders will pay Rs 5565, Rs 4830, 2520 and Rs 925 for respective classes of accommodation.
Non-islanders travelling by MV Coral Queen will have to pay Rs 10755, Rs 9800, Rs 8915 and Rs 2765 for Deluxe, Semi-Deluxe, 1st Class Cabin and Bunk Class respectively, while for islanders the fares have been fixed at Rs 5565/-, Rs 5520/-, Rs 5020 and Rs 1020 respectively. Government servants proceeding to mainland on tour/LTC including Annual Free Sea Passage etc. shall continue to pay the fare applicable to non-islanders. However, the Government servants proceeding to mainland at their own cost on leave etc. shall be treated at par with the islanders for payment of ship fare, according to an official document.
