In line with other States of the country, the UT Administration will hold a number of functions under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, an outreach campaign, on the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar on April 14, which will continue till May 5. The objective of the Abhiyan is to reach out to the rural populace and spread the awareness about social welfare schemes for which the administration has identified several villages under the special outreach programme of the central government. Sharing details about the campaign, the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Mr Udit Prakash Rai informed that awareness camps, seminars and meetings would be held across these islands during which people would be made aware about seven schemes including Ujala Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana-Saubhagya, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Jiwan Jyoti Bima Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna and Mission Indradhanush and eligible villagers would be enrolled by the teams at the spot.
The campaign will be launched on Ambedkar Jayanti i.e. 14th April under the name of “Sabka Sath, Sabka Gaon, Sabka Vikas”. It is in line with rural development schemes like “Antyodaya” - based on the principle of “convergence and saturation”. The current initiative will aim for 100% coverage under the schemes for eligible beneficiaries in the three-week window from April 14 to May 5, said Mr Rai. “The Abhiyan  is aimed at promoting social harmony, reach out  to poor rural households, obtain feedback on ongoing programmes, enrol  in new initiatives, focus on doubling farmers’ income, enhance livelihood opportunities and re-emphasise national priorities such as cleanliness and strengthen Panchayati Raj institutions.”
On Ambedkar Jayanti, the Prime Minister of India will address the nation from Bijapur, while district-level workshops on taking forward Dr. Ambedkar’s ideas will be conducted across the country. The main function here will be held in the premises of the Municipal Council where the Lt. Governor will address the gathering as the chief guest. Aadhar camps will also be held in different parts of these islands. Camps for Caste/Income Certificate; scholarship enrolment, Bank Account and Adhaar linkage will also be held. Different programs such as Swachh Bharat Diwas on April 18, Ujjawala Panchayat Diwas on April 20, and Panchayati Raj Diwas on April 24 would be organised in the district. Gram Shakti Abhiyan, Ayushman Bharat Diwas, Farmers Welfare Day and Aajeevika Diwas would be held on April 28th, 30th and May 2 and May 5, informed Mr Rai.
