State-level training on social defence issues held

A three-day state level training programme on “Social Defence Issues” was organized by the Police Training School (PTS), Prothrapur, recently for the in-service police personnel of the rank ASI to Inspectors, in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The training programme was conducted under the overall supervision of Smt Usha Rangnani, Principal, Police Training School.  The main objective of the course was to train/sensitize the middle level Police functionaries on the issues related to social defense, such as old age care, drug abuse and prevention, beggary prevention & rehabilitation and other relevant issues to enable them to deal the social defence issues in more effective way.
During the training programme, Mr Kishore Kumar, Vice Principal, PTS, Mr. T. Sebasteen, Rtd. DySP, A&N Police, Dr.N.Rajvelu, Associate Professor, JNRM, Port Blair, Mr Sridharan, Guest Lecturer, BBA Deptt., JNRM, Port Blair, Smti. S. Raji, Lecturer, DBRAIT, Port Blair, Mr Rakesh Pal Govind, Ld. Advocate, District & Session Court, Port Blair, and other well experienced faculty members of A&N Police delivered informative and impressive lectures on various topics like Social Defence: Concept, Nature, Areas & Need, Old Age Care: Magnitude, Policy & Programme, Salient Features of Maintenance & Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. 2007, Drug Abuse and Prevention: Nature & Problems, Programs and legislative provisions, Problems of Destitute (Beggary) and related state legislations, other social defence issues such as Child Protection, Transgender, Trafficking of women etc., Role of Media, a Network on Social Defence and Role of Police on Social Defence Issues. Altogether, 38 in-service Police personnel of various Police Stations/Units participated in the training programme.
