There is a saying that when one woman comes into politics, she changes; but when many women come into politics, politics changes. But Baby Fareeda undoubtedly shattered some deeply held beliefs when she took oath as Adhyaksha, South Andaman Zilla Parishad a year ago. Despite all odds, the outgoing Adhyaksha has proved her mettle by successful taking development to the last village of South Andaman. During her one year stint as Adhyaksha, Fareeda reached out to people living in the rural helmets in South Andaman ensuring the fruits of development reach the last village of this part of the islands.
Her personality was such that challenges and struggles bowed before her. Her unflinching resolve to eke out  better living for the people of her constituency saw her breaking all the stereotypes and standing firm behind her people bringing development to their doors. Albeit limited understanding of politics, she became an inspiration for other women in her village. Her resolve for the woman-friendly environment is the symbol of women empowerment. Speaking to EOI, Baby Fareeda recounts that improving the financial status and strengthening the engineering staff was her biggest challenges when she took the office of Adhyaksha. She tried hard and with the support of her fellow members and was able to clear the backlog which amounted to Rs 14 crores. The engineering staff position was also strengthened in the past one year, the outgoing Adhyakshat states.

On being asked about news report about her setting up a separate camp office, Baby Fareeda clarified that the so- called camp office was not set up by her. Since the formation of the South Andaman Zilla Parishad in 1995, the camp office has been there all these years. For last many years, every Adhyaksh of SAZP has used this camp office for official purposes.
