Surprise raids by Food Safety officials

As part of the stringent actions against the defaulters (selling, storage and distribution of contraband tobacco products), with the assistance of Police Department, the Food Safety Department has seized and imposed penalties under various section of Food Safety & Standards Act’2006 against the illegal operators, of which 25 were compounded and as many as 14 were adjudicated for possessing of contraband products.  Of the 25 persons who were compounded, a penalty of Rs.2,60,000 were recovered and an amount of Rs.165,000 was realized from adjudication during the period between  April 1 and till date. Further, a review meeting of District Food Safety Unit was held on May 7 at the Conference Hall of Dy. Commissioner’s Office wherein the Commissioner Food Safety, A & N Islands Shri Udit Prakash Rai presided over. and errant Food Business Operators will be punished under the relevant section of FSS Act, 2006. All the food business operators are here advised to update their license/registration of food business and also advised to strictly follow the Food Safety Rules and Regulations under Food Safety Rules’2011.
