Swachh Sagar Abhiyan by Coast Guard

The Indian Coast Guard conducted a massive Beach Clean-Up drive at various beaches in A&N Islands including Mazar Seafront area of Marina Park beach, Ariel Bay & Jetty at Diglipur and beaches in Campbell Bay on Saturday  towards Government of India flagship programme “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan”. The service has been effectively contributing not only towards the Prime Minister’s visionary step of Clean India Campaign but also has taken steps towards 'Swachh Sagar Abbiyaan' wherein measures have been put in place for keeping our oceans clean.
The event was conducted by Coast Guard personnel wherein approximately 700 kgs of garbage including discarded plastic items, ropes, nets, clothes etc were collected from all the beaches and handed over to concerned civil administration for disposal. The event was witnessed and applauded by the locals and they also extended helping hand towards cleaning the area. During the drive the banner was also displayed to sensitize the locals not to pollute the pristine beaches of the islands. Indian Coast Guard had been instrumental in generating awareness amongst local populace regarding the importance of clean shores. The event was a great success and the beach looked cleaner on completion of the drive.
Inspector General KR Suresh TM, Commander Coast Guard Region(A&N) reiterated the importance of the sensitive eco-system and biosphere in and around Andaman Nicobar Islands.   Mrs. Raj Mahajan was also present at Marina Park during the event.  Mrs. Mahajan lauded the invaluable contribution of Indian Coast Guard towards this noble cause.
