Swachhta Abhiyan by Coast Guard

Indian Coast Guard conducted massive clean-up drive at various places in A& N Islands this weekend including Hut Bay, Mayabunder, Kamorta and Port Blair. Coast Guard Station Hut Bay and CG ship C- 412 along with fishing populace of farm Tikrey at Little Andaman conducted the cleanliness drive at Hut Bay. A team of ICGS Mayabunder conducted the event at Karmatang beach and Coast Guard Station Kamorta at Kamorta Beach. The cleanliness drive at Port Blair was enthusiastically conducted at Chatham Jetty area and Tatrakshak Vihar area by CG ship Bhikaji Cama and Coast Guard District HQ No. 14 Port Blair respectively.
The Coast Guard service has been effectively contributing not only towards Prime Minister’s visionary step of clean India campaign but also has taken step towards “Swachha Sagar Abhiyan” through putting efforts towards beach clean ship in these pristine Islands. Under this program, various Coast Guard ships and establishments in A&N Islands are undertaking beach clean up on every Saturday with an aim to spread the awareness among locals towards protecting the pristine beaches of Isles.
The event was conducted by Indian Coast Guard personnel where in approximately 1000 kgs of garbage including discarded plastic items, ropes, nets and clothes etc were collected from all the places and handed over to concerned civil administration for disposal. The event was witnessed and applauded by locals and they also extended helping hand towards cleaning the area. During the drive, banners and placards were displayed to sensitize the visitors against polluting the pristine Islands. The event was a great success as the garbage laden area was converted into clean beaches.
