Swachhta drive at GBPH registers enthusiastic participation

The Port Blair Municipal Council in association with the Directorate of Health Services and GB Pant Hospital conducted a cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharath Abhiyan on Saturday. The drive was led by the Chairperson of the Council. Mr S.C.L.Das, Pr. Secretary (UD/Health), Smti Rashmi Singh, Secretary(i/c), PBMC, Mr Udit Praksh Rai, DC(SA),  Mr N.K.Udhaya Kumr, Sr.Vice Chairperson, Mr Dharmendra Narayan, Jr. Vice Chairperson, Councillors of PBMC, Dr. S.P.Burma, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Avijit Roy, PHO, PBMC, Dr. Gamesh Samaddar, MO (i/c) GB Pant Hospital and other supporting staff of G.B.Pant Hospital were present on the occasion.
The team carried out a clean-up activity in the G.B. Pant Hospital as part of  the Prime Minister’s National Swachh Bharat initiative. It is an action plan to keep the health premises clean and to create awareness  among population. The mass drive involves cleaning up the environs as well as providing a clean, safe and hygienic ambiance. The team headed by Mr B. Eswar Rao started  the drive in front of ICU/Dialysis Unit by cutting grass and bushes after cleaning the entire patch then the  team started cleaning back side of new medical ward, special ward, surrounding area of nursing home etc.  The team also collected bottles, gloves and other materials thrown in the nallah and adjoining areas.  All the wastes collected from G.B.Pant Hospital, Directorate of Health Services and surrounding areas were shifted to the dumping yard.  The Port Blair Municipal Council plans to conduct more such mass cleanliness drives in a phased manner and has urged citizens to participate in the cleanliness campaign.
