Traders discuss basic issues of GST with LG

A delegation led by the Member of Parliament, Shri B P Ray, including representatives of Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry, grain dealers association, shopkeepers, activists and elected representatives, today participated in a meeting held at the Conference hall of Raj Niwas. Issues pertaining to the implementation of the Goods & Services Tax (GST) in the A&N Islands were discussed. The trader community expressed its keen interest in the implementation of the GST in the Islands. During the meeting, the trader community brought to the notice of the Lt Governor issues relating to GST implementation. It is expected that about 3000 traders from the Islands will be registered in the GST system. Till date, as many as 1200 traders have already registered. In order to further generate awareness among the trading community, awareness camps are being organized in Nicobar and North & Middle Andaman on 8th & 9th July 2017.  From 10th July onwards, the registration process will be initiated in the offices of the Assistant Commissioners (GST), in Nicobar and North & Middle Andaman district.
The Member of Parliament and the trader representatives expressed their gratitude to the Lt Governor and officers of the Administration for their efforts in smooth implementation of the GST in the Islands. The Lt Governor also thanked the traders for attending the training camps organized in this regard and for propagating the knowledge gained by them to other business communities and also for extending support in the implementation of GST in the islands.
All issues and problems coming to the notice in implementation of GST are being resolved and concerted efforts are being made for implementation of the GST in the islands in an effective manner.
