Training on advances in paddy production held

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, CIARI here organized a three days training programme on “Advances in paddy production” for practicing farmers and farm women of Guptapara village recently.  Altogether, 25 farmers and farm women have benefited from the training. Dr. L.B.Singh, Senior Scientist and Head i/c highlighted the importance of paddy production in Bay islands with high yielding paddy varieties for higher food grain production and food security. He emphasized various advantages of integrated nutrient management system for paddy, importance of bio-fertilizers, slow release of nitrogenous fertilizers, organic waste recycling for the Islands eco system.
During the technical session, subject experts from KVK, Port Blair, Mr. N. Bommayasamy, SMS (Agronomy), demonstrated on seedling treatment, management of aged seedlings, integrated weed and water management in rice production, application of foliar nutrition for enhancing nutrient use efficiency. Dr. V.K.Pandey, SMS (Plant protection) highlighted on identification of major insect pests and diseases and its integrated management during the crop period. Dr. Zachariah George, SMS (Animal Science) emphasized the use of paddy straw as a source of dry roughage for dairy cattle. At the end of the day Smti Moruni Das Member of Guptapara Panchayat appreciate and appealed to the beneficiaries to adopt scientific technologies developed by the KVK, Port Blair.
